Hello,
I have just purchased an i3 and downloaded the speed camera data.(which it acknowledged as successful) after travelling over two hundred miles, it is apparent that it does not alert me when passing quite a lot of the fixed cameras.
What have I done wrong please?
thx! |

make sure you have proximity alerts turned on in the settings of the i3.
also, can you see the camera's in where to | food hotels & more | custom points ?

Thanks for the quick reply!
I have got the proximity alerts switched on, and their are about 25 files (relating to speed cameras) in the custom points!
Should the unit alert to every fixed camera? |

Don't forget, it will only alert if you are going over the speed. |

... and maybe the camera isn't registered on the database so think about recording its location and adding it to the database using the Speed Cameras link. |

Thanks for all the info!
I beleive that 2carkev was correct, I didn't realise that you had to be going over the actual speed limit before thei3 would alert you. I thought that you would recieve a warning of a camera up ahead even if you were going under the limit.
I will test this out soon. |

athletenige - you should get an initial 'bong-bong' and red banner at the top as you approach the camera and then after that it will do extra bongs if you are over the limit but the red banner will stay there until you pass the camera.

MaFt,
I just drove at a static camera which is a 30mph but nothing happened, no "bong-bong" or red banner as I approached it.
So I still do not know what the problem is.
It does register with some cameras but probably only about 50% at best.

There's something I seem to have noticed about my I3, the camera alerts i.e. the red banner with "xxmph alert ahead", not the over limit alert, appear only if your going above a certain speed.
For example, there is a relatively new SPECS camera system less than 20 miles away, and I acctually thought it was a 60mph one, so I was traveling at 60 and no alerts were being shown at all.
However looking at the DB the cameras are acctually set to 70 (confirmed online), and I presume that I would have been alerted had I been closer to 70.
I say this because earlier today, on my daily commute, less than 15 mins, during I pass 5 individual gatzo's, I noticed an alert for one of the cameras, I had to slow down because of traffic and the alert dissapeared before the camera, when I got back upto speed the alert re-appeard, I did not stop in the traffic, mearly slowed my speed, it's this behaviour that makes me think that the speed sensitve proximity alerts only alert if your going within 10mph* of the alert speed, i.e. 20mph+ for a 30 camera, 30+ for a 40 etc. (*10mph figure is a guess)
Can anyone else confirm this? I will check again tomorrow if I get a chance. |

Absolutely normal. That's how it works. you get the initial brief alert only if you are close to the speed limit and not if you are significantly below it. The continuous alert will occur when you are driving faster than the limit. No further tesing required. |

Well that makes sense, I thought it was something like that especially, since the SPECS camera(s) that I didn't get warned about, do come up when running a simulation of the journey I took over the weekend (something I didn't know I could do till I read this forum :D).
And now I know that section of the road is acctually a 70 not a 60 , but then if you follow the whole area of the cameras it varies from 30 to 70 depending what section your acctually on, one of the things that I think has led to so many people not knowing for certain the correct speed, certainly most of the drivers I was following at the time appeared to also think it was 60. |

Athletenige, what you can do is open up the speed camera files in excel and change all the @30,40 etc and replace them with @0 so you will get alerts for every speed camera in your database that you pass whatever speed your doing.
Works for me :D |

crayg30,
That really does seem like a great idea, can you give me a bit more detail about changing the excel files please?
Thankyou! |
