Hi,
I have tom tom five on my XDA and the camera software works but needs to be updated, i have spent lots and lots of time (ask the wife!!) trying to update the poi's. I have subscribed and tried to download and poi's to transfer on to XDA they transfer but dont work? i have also downloaded the poi-edit software but i cannot get the wizard to work?
I really am getting lost in this world im not used to, my question is does anyone know any company or organisation that could install and enable this update software, as i am doing a lot of travelling and need the updates etc. I have no problem paying someone as its costing me a fortune in my time etc. Thanks for your time....... |

Hi there, in the subscription forums, there is a sticky that explains speed camera software and also has the most common Q & A's. Look at Member Forums on the left of this page.
TT5 holds a maximum number of POI's (39 I believe. Try deleting all the POI's and then downloading the newest version. Follow the instructions and you should then be ok.
By the way, which city do you live (maybe somebody can help you out if they don't live too far away). PS. Don't post you address on here as you never know. _________________ -------------------------------------------------------

I may be wrong (Often am!!) but I thought that since the Pocktgpsworld camera database became subscribtion based it is not possible to use the auto update function in poiedit.
I updated mine by logging onto the speedcamera page, downloading the files, and then copying the ov2 and bmp files onto my pda.
perhaps someone else may be able to tell you how to use auto update. |

You are absolutely right. POIEdit is not compatible at present with the subscription based speed cam database. _________________ -------------------------------------------------------

Sync your unit to your desktop.
Go to Start - My Computer - Mobile Device - SD Card and Open the Great Britain Map.
Delete all Pocket GPS .ov2 and .bmp files.
Go to the folder where you saved this months Safety Camera files.
Highlight all .ov3 and .bmp files and right click copy.
Go back to the Great Britain map folder, on your SD card, and right click paste.
Now start TT - Change preferences - Manage POI - Warn when near POI and set up your distance before warning and warning sound.
If you prefer spoken alerts have a look at this thread http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=37098 _________________ Formerly known as Lost_Property

Thats the argument for being able to edit your posts,
You didn't mention the fact he may have too many POI's loaded in the first place. _________________ -------------------------------------------------------

Yes, delete anything relating to PocketGPS, files and folders.
Remember there are 23 .ov2 files and 23 .bmp files to copy and paste (or drag and drop if you prefer). The newer .bmp files are nicer than the older ones. _________________ Formerly known as Lost_Property

Make sure you haven't dislodged your SD card. Remove and replace and see if it finds the maps.
If it still can't find the maps, exit Tom Tom and do a soft reset, then try again.
You may have accidently deleted other than PocketGPS .ov2 and .bmp files. If neither of the above gets it going, you will have to re-install the maps and then the 46 PocketGPS files. In which case it will be quicker if you have a card reader. If you have, format the SD card and start afresh.
I'll stick around until in case you still have a problem. _________________ Formerly known as Lost_Property

Did you not back up your copy onto your PC??
If not, contact tomtom and explain the situation, they should send you a replacement. If you have some installation CD's, just re-install tomtom from there. _________________ -------------------------------------------------------

A card reader is a device which is either built into your Desktop PC or an addition connected via the USB socket. These enable you to remove SD Cards etc, from for example PDA's & Digital Cameras and read them via your desktop.
There is a possible solution, if you have a card reader built into the front of your desktop, or maybe a friend or neighbour has one you can use.
In your search engine Msn or Google etc., type smartpctools then click on search.
Click on the entry Smart PC Solutions for you
next page click in the box Recover deleted data
next page you'see the top entry Smart Data Recovery, click on the Free Download.
Install the programme, follow instructions and you should be able to recover the file/s you deleted in error. You will need access to a card reader though. If you are unable to do this then lupos0_1's suggestion is the only way to go. _________________ Formerly known as Lost_Property
