|
It's clear from reading the messages posted here that many owners struggle uploading the camera database to their i3 - so I've written a small application to assist with this.
Key features:
1. It allows you to specify warning *times*, rather than warning distances. Technically, it calculates the distance that you would travel at the prevailing speed limit over the specified time - in the majority of cases, the effect is the same.
2. Camera warnings are *always* given, even if you're not exceeding the speed limit. Note that you won't get the repeating warning if you're over the limit - once you've been warned, it's down to you to check your speed and adjust accordingly.
3. The red warning banner at the top of the screen displays useful information, like the type of camera, it's database reference, *and* the prevailing speed limit.
4. Dragging the PGPSW camera archive to the application *automatically* extracts, processes, and saves the relevant files to POI_Loader's working directory. Just run POI_Loader afterwards to sync-up all of your POIs.
I'm looking for a handful of people to help beta test this software - in addition to that, I'd also like to hear any comments or suggestions that people might have.
The final application may levy a token charge, say a couple of quid - this is principally to cover my time in administrating the required licence keys, as each copy of the software will be locked down to a specific hard disk. I would prefer not to have to do this, but I'm if some scrote on eBay is going to cash in on my efforts... |

8) It looks like a pretty neat application, but I really don't understand why you are so uptight about locking it down, generating license keys and charging a small fee along with all the admin it involves.
Why not just give it away for free and be happy that you have contributed something cool and useful to the community. If people are dumb enough to buy free software on ebay then that's their lookout. Don't let it stop you doing something useful! _________________ Gone fishing! |

But there is already a FREE utility (HERE) to do that as you know, as you've already asked a question in that thread. |

But it doesn't do the same thing, and is considerably less integrated. |

ash, i dont think that people will pay for your application seeing that there are free alternatives.....i appreciatte that you have spent loads of time making it and as you say you dont wont it offered on ebay to unsuspecting buyers so, why not intergrate a 'large' banner on the application saying that its a 'free and made by ash' application..this way people who might buy it on ebay will (when the application is opened) be greatly pee-ed that they have just brought it when its free...this will soon discourage any potential ebay sellers... _________________ *************************** |

Funny you should suggest that - exactly what I've just done! Couldn't really be bothered with all the admin, just wanted to gauge opinion.
Just looking around for some hosting now... |

I will happily beta test for you, but wouldn't be happy paying for it. Why not make it donation-ware ??
Apart from that it looks simple enough, and it looks good. If it does the job then I'm sure it will become well known
Cheers

We know exactly what you mean Chris
Looks like a nifty little app. Very grateful for the help as I'm sure others are. |

Looks like a neat little app, I would test it.
Whats wrong with charging for software, is that not how Mr Gates (Bill not the other one) got to be so powerfull?
Could it not be hosted by this site, so it is available to members only?
Off to try i3 on complex route now. _________________ Acefreecell

That looks really useful, I would be happy to test for you.
Just wish I could do stuff like that!

With a little tweaking it now alerts you as you approach a camera location (regardless of your speed) *and* will continue to warning you if you're exceeding the speed limit 8) |
