Can anyone explain what the "Service Account" in TTN5 is please?

I am new to TT and assume it's for Plus services, but can't find useful mention of it.

I have an account on the TT website where I have registered my software etc., but it doesn't like this email address/password when I enter it in the Service Account screen, which leads me to believe it's for something else.

I want to buy the US maps and don't know if this is going to cause me a problem using/installing them or not.
