I just purchased a tom tom 500, backed up and updated the firmware. I went to turn it on and everything seems fine but it stays on finding GPS signal and nothing happens after that.

Isnt it suppose to pick up GPS ? or does it use your mobile's GPS? I assumed it was a free service unlike road angel?

can anyone tell me what i am doing wrong? the device is charged has been on for 2 hours and ive been a couple of places with it

One of two things probably.

You are not following the instructions - suggest a sit down and good look (I know us blokes think that instructions are for wimps but ....)

Or the unit may be faulty - in which case back to the supplier and demand either refund or replacement

When it is trying to find the signal for the first time it could take a while during this time its best not to move the device and the best clean line of sight to the sky you can give it the better. Give it a good 20 mins before considering it faulty - Mike

Where did you buy it from? Was it a boxed product with instructions and manual. they may not be in paper form but could be on the accompanying CD.

If this is inside a building then the unit can only see a very small percentage of the sky, the building will shield the signals from behind and to the sides, I sugest you take it outside, away from the buildings etc - and try again - Mike
