Hi

Just bought a Go500 and can't seem to get PC to recognise it via USB. I'm using XP, USB works fine for other applications, the TomTom has the picture showing it's USB connected in its rear...

Very annoying - anyone have any ideas for help - could the unit be faulty?

Tried switching everything off and on several times in various orders.

Grrr! Confused

I reckon its the PC rather than the TomTom.
I've always found the USB connection to my Go300 a little bit flakey, sometimes needing the Go OFF before plugging it in, sometimes ON, and occasionally needing to connect everything then re-boot the PC.

Recently my Cannon camera which has aways fired up perfectly on USB, suddenly wasn't recognised at all. Had to download new software for it before the computer could "see" it again.
Also my USB scanner which worked fine on Win98 cannot be left plugged in on my XP machine because the webcam stops working..... Laughing

Computers, don't you just love 'em? Twisted Evil

thanks for the advice, Andy.

I can plug a camera in using the same USB cable and PC recognises it immediately so clearly something between the Go and the PC is a bit ropey. I also use the free "ZoneAlarm" firewall jobbie which I wondered if might have anything to do with it...

I haven't put the Go in its cradle or anything - presumably this shouldn't make any difference? Apologies for the noob questions.

You may need to push the plug into the GO a bit further. Just use some force

Thanks for all the replies. Embarrasingly, it did just require a firmer push of the USB into the Go. Embarassed Embarassed

Slightly unhelpful that the TomTom screen shows it is connected without though!! Oh well, sorted now, phew.

Don't be embarrassed! We've all been there!

TomTom should have better quality control on the mouldings. I wonder how much it has cost them in returns. There must be thousands of people out there who haven't found these forums. Ones who've been unable to install the stuff that TomTom sell as downloads. All taking their GOs back for exchange.

Maybe that's why there's so many "refurbs" available for the map upgrade programme Rolling Eyes
