Hi Dave and welcome onboard.

To answer your questions in order.

An OV2 file is a Data File that all TomTom Devices can understand and use. A BMP file is a Graphic File that is associated, in this instance, with an OV2 File of the same name. The BMP File gives a pictorial indication on the screen of the data in the OV2 File.

The File you have to Download is called pocketgps_uk_sc_jan06.zip

The name changes to indicate which month it was posted in. This can be found at http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/uksafetycameras.php

Part way down the page is a 'Download the Database' Icon. Click this to Download the Database. This is a ZIP File which can be opened by several 'UNZIP' Programs and allows you to select which files you want to Extract.

There are concise instructions at http://www.tomtomsatnav.info/pgps.html which will show you which Files you Extract and use. It will also explain what to do with the Files when you are ready to Copy them to your Device.

Before you change anything on your TomTom do a Full Backup of the SD Card. This has the only copy of your Navigation Map. If something goes wrong with the SD Card, you will have an expense paper-weight until the problem is sorted.
