|
|
Hi
This may sound like a silly question but can anyone please help with a problem I have with a windscreen mount for my PDA.
I got quite an expenisive mount for my PDA to mount it on my windscreen and it was fine for about 2 days then I cleaned the windscreen and now the mount keeps falling off after about 4 hours. I have cleaned the screen with thinners in case there was any risedue on the screen from the cleaning stuff and it is still the same. The mount is one of the ones that has a lever on it that you pull back and lock this in turn makes a suction on the screen, does anyone know what I can put on the sucker part of the mount to cure this problem?
I am sure I am not the only person that has has this problem.
Many Thanks |

Use an alcohol wipe to clean the screen then wet the suction cup slightly before securing.
What make of mount is it? _________________ Darren Griffin |

Hi
Thanks for the quick reply.
I cleaned the screen with thinners so that should be totally clean.
I have not tried to wet the sucker put but it is not a rubber sucker but more of a plastic sort and when you pull the lever on the back of it it sort of pulls out the back of the sucker pad which in turn should make a air tight seal. |

Thinners leave a residue whereas alcohol evaporates. However I always 'wet' the sucker to improve adhesion. _________________ Darren Griffin |

It wouldn't harm to give the contact surface of the sucker a wipe _________________ Darren Griffin |

If you are referring to the mounts that have two cradles then yes they're OK but I wouldn't bother using a cradle to hold the GPS receiver.
The key part is a good quality suction mount, Herber Richter mounts are the best by a mile, does yours have HR stamped on the base anyplace? _________________ Darren Griffin |

I ask only because the cheap suction mounts are rubbish. You mentioned yours was expensive so wondered whose it was.
When you get a chance have a look and see? _________________ Darren Griffin |

If you leave your mount on the windscreen then you are asking to have your window smashed as the scumbags thieves will think your PDA is in the glove box, they will do anything for a quick hit
Sorry to be such a killjoy |

Beware of the gooseneck. It is very thin and will invite vibrations. Nowadays, try to get a mount without gooseneck if possible. _________________ Lutz
