Last year we holiday'd in France, Lux and Belgium. We had a pre planned route which was decide using Autoroute 2004 and Navigator 2.3.
It would have great if i could have transfered the route from one of the PC programs to the Tomtom (Pocket PC).
But not knowing of a program to do this I did it all manually oon the tiny 3.5" screen. It was very time consuming and to be blunt a ball ache.
I have been on TT site and they have no forum or no suggestion area, which is a bit lame!
It would be cool if they have a PC planner as part of their package or a conversion tool would suffice.
Any techies out there that could do that, surely it's just waypoint co-ordinates at the simplist form, ( i haven't really got a clue ).
Cheers
Great site by the way, been lurking for a while 8) |

Hi Nygie
I have TT5 and I also plan my routes and excursions using the same kind of method as you have. It is a little time consuming but it does pass a cold winters night.
However, if there was a program that enabled me to plan my holiday trips via the PC I would take full advantage of it. I’m pretty sure that such a programme doesn’t exist, but maybe someone will come up with a brainwave. _________________ Tomtom Go 720.

Do you mean a Program like ITNConv, which can be found here _________________ Richard

You can easily transfer routes, waypoints, and pushpins from Streets and Trips and/or Autoroute using POIconverter or ITNconv mentioned before. If you want to do custom POIs, I'd use POIconverter, and if you want trnafer a route, I'd use ITNconvert.
The route can be across regions and TT will still use it. You just swap maps as yopu go along. |

Hi Oldboy and schneid
Thanks for the info. I had never heard of ITNConv but I will give it a whorl and see what happens.
Thanks. _________________ Tomtom Go 720.

Hi Oldboy and schneid
Yes, ITNConv works. I just plotted a route on the PC with Autoroute and transferred it to TT5. Bingo! I hope that Nygie gives it a try and if he does then I will be interested in hearing his opinion. _________________ Tomtom Go 720.

Thanks guys,
In the past I've always used TTN to setup my itineries but with the ease of using AutoRoute and ITNConv I can use the much bigger screen on my PC.
Many thanks for the tip. |

Don't overlook POI converter to cteate custom POI databases. I copy and paste addresses from the phone book into the Search/Find box of Streets and Trips (or Autoroute) say for coffee house in my area. I save the EST file and then have POIconverter change it to an OV2 file and save it as coffee.ov2. To be fancy, I then cut a 22x22 graphic from somewhere and save it as a BMP named coffee.bmp. Both files are then copied to my current map directory and appear as a TomTom POI category.

Hi schneid
Just when I thought I knew everything along comes someone like yourself and finds me another load of info to fiddle about with. Right, I have come to grips with ITNConv and now I will get stuck into POI converter.
As BodgerBaz said. ’its easier on a large screen’. _________________ Tomtom Go 720.

No, but I heard Colin McRae replaced his co-driver with a Tomtom 700 |

Looks very good, saves loads of time!!
May have to put extra waypoints in Autoroute to get it to take exactly the same route.
When you cross country borders will it load the appropriate map or will it have to done manually. Which is not too much of a problem, can do it at border crossing.
Thanks again! |

Cheers, ITNconv worked a treat. I have been looking for something like this for ages as I had loads of old Autoroute trips saved. |

You definitely have to include Stops in S&T or AR to force TT to go the way you want to go. If you just enter a Start and End, TT will do its own routing.
ITNconv will take a trip planned and saved as an EST (or AXE for AR) and convert it to an ITN.
For POIconverter to use data from S&T or AR you must create Pushpins, save the EST/AXE, and convert to an OV2. The resulting OV2 will maintain the order of entry so a route can be planned with pushpins, converted to an OV2, and then I think POIedit will convert that to an ITN.
So, use ITNconvert for route planning and POIconverter for creating custom POI categories. |
