|
|
Hi,
Whilst looking into the possibility of extra voices, i happened across a file that's floating about with 30 celebrity voices on it. Although it says it's for tt navigator, the files are the same format as in tt mobile, so, i copied them over to the voices directory on the card in my nokia 9500 and gave it a whirl. It does work, but when you flick through the available voices in tomtom, the majority of the celebrity ones seem to hang the phone for around 40sec, presumably while the phone is trying to decode the sound. However, once you finally select one, the voice prompts during your route play fine more or less. Now, this does tie in with something i saw someone else saying, about tt navigator voices being of a higher bitrate than the ones in tt mobile? Not sure if this is true, as i have currently no way of checking this, but it would certaily explain the phone taking ages to decode them.
Any help on this would be greatly appreciated, has anyone else tried what i have? On a different phone maybe?
cheers

"happened across a file" is not a statement we like to hear here...
The sampling rate is different between devices. The GO/ONE/Rider need 22050 Hz, the Smartphones need 16000 Hz, the Pocket PCs "eat" pretty much anything. So you will be able to use Smartphone files on the PDA but not necessarily the other way round.
You can always "cook" your own files with the proper sampling rate. _________________ Lutz

Hi lutz,
Thanks for the info, just what i was looking for! Someone with in depth knowledge of the voice files. So, where would i start with regards to editing/making these voice files then?
tia
mark.
(ps: as for my phrase earlier, i was just referring to the fact there's voice files that seem to be becoming quite freely available. For example a quick search on these very forums revealed two links to files straight away! Also they are sold on a certain popular online auction site) |
