Hi!
I am in the market for a Sat Nav system and currently doing all of the research (the fun bit) before biting the bullet. However, I use a Mac running OS X 10.4, and it appears my options for which unit to plump for are really affected.
I have a budget of around the £300 mark (although this could increase if needs be) and I don't need a system packed with bells and whistles; I just want the most class leading hardware/software (SiRF STAR III chipset?) that I can get at this price coupled with outstanding ergonomics and rock-solid performance.
I have read that Garmin won't support Mac OS until the end of the year. I was very interested in the new Sony NAV-U systems but they appear to be PC only as well (is that right?).
It seems to me that my main option is TomTom. This isn't a problem because at every turn I encounter glowing reports of their products.
I was considering the Go 300 but after further research it would appear the TomTom One is, in fact, a more powerful and effective unit. I agree it might not look as impressive and I have read the sound on the One is no match for the 300 but in actual operation it is quicker and more intelligent and does the basics better than anything else out there.
So, as I write it seems the TomTom One is the system to go for but are you aware of an imminent upgrade by TomTom to their Go range? With their entry level bit of kit out performing the 300/500 – and with the competition seemingly using more contemporary hardware – I would of thought this was imminent and inevitable. And more importantly, I don't want to buy a TT One only for a new 300 to appear on the horizon!
So before I bite the bullet, I thought I would seek out your esteemed opinion to make sure I am on the right track here...
Cheers,
Haymaker. |

If you can wait until mid march - CeBIT is just around the corner. _________________ Lutz

I can certainly wait a few more weeks if it is worthwhile – forgive my ignorance but what is CeBIT? And why is it so exciting? Is it a Mac product? |
