having to reactivate their map.
Ive not tried this myself but cant really be asked, incase it does me like the others that have reported it and asks for the activation code/product code or whatever code it wants that I dont have and force a step back down to V4- Lol
Jus trying my luck really. I've no idea why you would have to do this re-activate thing but hey...Something tells me the code is embedded somewhere on that SD card (within the firmware the map was registered in)

Don't forget, TomTom want to make money. They want you to buy newer maps every now and then.
Apart from that - if you want to play around do a backup of your SD card first. _________________ Lutz

I upgraded to V5 and did not have to reactivate via the web. The only time I have had to use priduct activtion is when I upgraded my map via the TT website download. _________________ -------------------------------------

Hmmm. Nice!
Ok, well we all know the product code is 3 sets of 5 characters, but when u get it, how long is an activation code and what does it consist of? |

Excuse me while I talk tomyself - Lol
Been thinking....Those with Classics that have had it from day 1 with the pre-installed SD card running V4.00 and Map version 3.42 (was it) would never have had to activate their map (just plug & GO! right). However upon the upgrade to V5 software, the TomTom is treating the map/SD card as a new product...You follow???!?!
Sooooooo, Im thinking. The TomTom I recently bought has V4.42 running V3.90 GB Map. Perhaps my map had been activated when/if it was updated from V4.40 & Map V390 already and wont require a reactivation (Like *neiluk*)
I dunno.....Just fishing for thought.....Call me chicken if you like but i like to think it thru...Especially when i have restricted access/control over the situation. Dont wanna end up being locked out now do I...Yes I have a back up but uknow - Lol |

As long as you have the original Tomtom SD card, then you don't need activation, it is pre-activated. Only users with other memorycards (copies of original or bigger cards) required to use their activation code.
But I don't see your problem. What is the fear of entering a 15 digit activation code?
If your card works with 5.1 without activation, then it will also work with 5.42. _________________ GO1005
