Thanks for the advice. I had actually read the review but missed the bit about the external antenna. I still can't make out whether or not you can plug the charger straight into the unit or not.
If not I guess this means you have to cart the cradle around with you whenever you want to charge it up - a real pain as I don't just want to use it in the car.
Could anyone clear this up for me?
Thanks. |

Hi,
I've pretty much decided to buy TTN2, but wondered if there was much to chose from between the TomTom BT receiver and the Emtac one. It would be cheaper to get the TomTom receiver bundled with the software, but I want to use it for quite a few other applications as well.
Is there much of a difference in battery life?
Does the TomTom take an external antenna?
Do you have to use the docking station to recharge it or can a DC jack be plugged straight in as well?
Any other differences I should be aware of?
Thanks. |

Cooperman,
I've owned both the Emtac (previously) and the TomTom one now.
By and large, I've found them to be identical (battery life, form factor, etc).
You get more 'goodies' with the TT one (car charger that allows you to plug in both TT GPS and iPAQ as well as AC charger)
I found the emtac better (faster) at finding a fix from cold. The TT GPS can sometimes take a while to find the satellites.
So - comes down to personal preference, but if I had the choice I'd probably get the emtac because of the better cold start. |

I'd be interested in hearing which you like the best. I've found TTFF's marginally different between the two, but the Emtac is slightly better in TTFF's.
How do you like holding the power button in to turn it off ? |
