Garmin Etrex Legend - routes and waypoint

I recently upgraded from my trusty Lowrance Global Nav 200 to a Garmin Etrex Legend which I use in conjunction with Memory Map v4.

When marking a waypoint it seems the Garmin is unable to save and display the date and time the waypoint was created. This is a standard feature of the Lowrance which gives useful information particularly tor pinpointing real time progress when walking.

Another feature available with the Lowrance but not the Garmin is the option to define any waypoint on the route as the start point. When starting to navigate a route the Garmin appears to assume I wish to start at the first waypoin or WP1.
