I have just got my new tom tom one, how much memory comes as standared on the sd card? And is it possible to get a bigger one so that I can install all the poi downloads that are available.
Many Thanks.

The supplied SD card is 128Mb, the application just fits on though. I would certainly recommend buying a 256Mb card, you will then have plenty of room for the POI downloads and extra voice warnings etc.

Good choice. Thumbs Up

I think it depends on the country. I’d guess that the card size won’t be that big, probably 128MB. Can you connect the TomTom ONE to a PC (via the USB cable) and use Windows Explorer to show you the size of the card?

Yes it is. If you want additional maps then go for a card that’s at least 512MB if not 1GB. Connect the TomTom ONE to the PC and copy the entire contents of the SD card to a new folder. Insert your new (larger) SD card into the TomTom ONE and copy back all files and folders.

The additional benefit of getting a larger card is that you have the original TomTom SD card as a backup! ;)

Regards,

Another new TT One owner here. Bought mine last night and apart from needing to swap it for another one (due to missing manual+CD) I'm really impressed. I'd already spent ages looking at SatNav devices, and even studying the TT One, but it's surpassed all my expectations...

It's a lot thinner than the Go range, the GPS reception is nothing short of outstanding - was getting 7 satellites whilst holding the device flat on my lap in passenger seat, and then went indoors and still picking up 4/5 satellites from my dining room! Still got a lot to learn about the device, but the auto recalculation of route if you take a detour is cool (and no annoying warning to say you've gone wrong). All in all, well impressed.

Now just need to sort out how I'm gonna mount the device in the car as I hate the windscreen sucker method... would much prefer an easily detachable (i.e. <1min) way of connecting to an air vent, or might even try the velcro method!

I use Brodit mounts in my vehicle, for mounting my PocketPCs on the dashboard. Have you seen the Brodit holder for the TomTom ONE?

Regards,

Yes, delete the Great_Britain-Map.cfg file. However I'd advise you not to delete that file as it contains your Favourites and other information.

The "rubbish" recent destinations will eventually "fall off" the list when newer ones are added.

No, if you try to open it with MS Notepad you’ll find it’s encrypted.

Basically you delete it fully – or leave it to sort itself out. The later is the safest option for keeping your TomTom ONE operational!

You could always buy and download a map from the TomTom site ready for when you go on holiday Wink

Of course, TomTom might increase the number of PoIs at the next software upgrade. On the other hand they might reduce it and only allow PoIs that you buy from them Crying or Very sad

Of course that could happen, but unlikely as it would to some extent kill the goose that laid the golden egg (otherwise known as killing a major selling point).

My cynicism is due to the fact that they now sell Speed Camera info.

They also said recently that TeleAtlas had access to many millions of PoIs. This is an untapped resource and won't be made available for free.

Why should they not limit further the number so that you can build a small number of your own PoIs and pay for the rest which would be available in a different format, maybe like the built-in ones.

People will only pay for them IF they are proven to be accurate and up to date. You can (with the appropriate tools and knowledge) build your own poi.dat file (utilising YOUR poi info, but TomTom's categories and symbols), so as long as accurate POI data is available (three cheers for the internet ;)) then there will be no issues.
