Sad i won't go into bridge downloads yet not sure if memory card will be big enough?

I think that most of us ignore the CD and just backup with copy and paste (or drag and drop).

Plug in ONE with USB and turn it on.

ONE will either appear as a drive on the desktop or it can be opened as a removable drive via "My Computer"
Select all the contents of the ONE window and drag them to a new folder on the PC.

Wait while it downloads - takes a minute or two - the ONE screen should have a message and/or flashing icon.

Once complete the ONE should reboot and start working. Once it's up and running, unplug it and use it.

When the CD autoruns the first screen you will see is one with 5 options. The 2nd Option is Backup and Restore.

Click the Option and the Right Arrow to bring you a Screen with 4 Options on it. You need the Third Option, Backup Your TomTom GO.

This will do a Full Backup of the SD Card to a TomTom Folder in My Documents.

If you do the First Option, it will do it so quick you think it has done nothing, but it has only backed up your personal settings.

The Bridge Download is quite a large file so you might have to take as many voices off the card as possible to make room. Or get a bigger card.

TomTom never used to put an Icon on the Desktop. The Backup is usually found in My Documents\TomTomGO\.

I believe the 5.420 is a little bigger than 5.410, and as to whether it is worth it, this comes from TT's Website.
Quote:
What's new in 5.420?

- It's even easier to start a Traffic trial on your device.
- After setting up TomTom Traffic, it is automatically enabled.
- Streets with the same name in towns that are close together are not confused in this version.
- The quality of the sound has been optimised when using hands-free calling (GO 500 and 700).
- Version 5.420 is compatible with more mobile phones.
- All entries in the phonebook, on mobile phones compatible with this feature, are now transferred to your TomTom device, no matter where they are stored.

The Backup is the most importatnt. Which method have you tried, or want to try?

Once you've done the Backup, then you can think about the upgrade.

i have tried following the cd installation method the same as you mentioned earlier but when it gets to the' back up and restore' it wont,t go any further, it says click on ok but there is no ok icon just a left and right arrow, click right and nothing happens, click left and it goes backwards in the set up procedure! the unit is fully charged, contains memorycard, is connected and turned on.

If you plug your Tom Tom usb cable into your computer & switch your Tom Tom on, right click on My Computer, then on properties, you will see a tab called Hardware, click on this & you will see a button called Device Manager. Click on this & a list should come up & in that list is Disk Drives with a plus sign, click on this plus sign & you should see your Tom Tom Go listed.

This is not as daft as it sounds.....

Have you pushed the USB lead into the ONE as far as it will go? There was a problem (still is?) on the 700 where the lead seemed to snap into place - at least for the first few times. So just pushing it in normally didn't fully connect.
