|
|
Hello to all,
Forgive me if this is obvious, but just received my new iCN 520 Premium and have spent all yesterday at it!! I live in france and want to download camera locations. I have been reading loads on this site (wife nagging to do the decorating!).
On the database page it mentions the iCN 510 and SmartST V3, no mention of SmartST 2005, is it the same? Can I go ahead using the instruction for the 510 or do I use the SmartST V3 instructions?
Would I be better using the PoiEdit recommended, I had a quick look (whilst dodging backhanders from wife), as this appears to have a lot of european sites and info? I have many more 'Q's but will try and search for the answers first.
We are planning a drive next weekend, Brittany to Berlin, almost 1000mile, so would like to learn as much as poss before.
Regards,
Bob |

The instructions apply equally to V3 and 2005, no matter what the device is. _________________ Tim |

Thanks Tim, but for me living in France, is there much info regarding the continental database? I rarely go back to UK so at present not really interested in the UK database.
Can anyone enlighten me regarding this PoiEdit software on www.poiedit.com should I be using that INSTEAD of the Poi Editor with SmartST 2005 Desktop?
Thanks in anticipation.

If you read the compatibility matrix, you will see the following:-
Quote: | useless on PDA: user needs to use Navman console to transfer the poi's the to PDA. |
You need to use the Navman POIEditor, as the POIs are converted to a proprietary format when they are transferred to the device.
Have you had a look at the French website, www.gpspassion.com.
Here's another site I found, linked from gpspassion. It might be of sme use to you.

Hi again,
Tim I did look at the compatability, have I wrongly assumed that where it stated 'useless on PDA...' it means the palm users (pocket PC's), and not navman? So are you saying that I've no chance of using Poiedit software at all?
I've looked at those sites you mentioned, radarsenfrance has a database to download, so will give it a try, difficult when your french is not that good!

Yes Bob, all Navman devices need to use the Navman POIEditor.
I was hoping that your French would be better than mine (not difficult), bearing in mind your country of habitation.
Just out of interest, whereabouts in Brittany? I'll be in Vannes in August; my Dad keeps his boat there. _________________ Tim |

Hi Tim,
Thanks for the advice, Navman do not give much info on how to use the Poi- Editor can you point me to anywhere on this site that deals with it? I think I need to slow down a little, getting information overload! My 50 year old brain is not so quick (if it ever was!)
We are about one hour north from Vannes, near to Loudeac. Been here just over a year so still lots to do in the language area! Wife is fluent so that helps but makes me lazy!
Well off to post some 'q's in the beginners lounge!!
Regards,

Hi again!
Tim has been helpful in explaining a few things however, I have downloaded an ASC file from GP Passion (french camera database), unzipped it to a folder.
Then following the instructions in the manual under 'Importing a custom POI file', I have then opened SmartST - opened POI Editor and then tried to open the ASC file as directed in the destructions. This is what I get, a pop-up stating,'List index out of bounds (1)'
That's as far as I got! I have taken out the text above the Lat/Long coords.
What am I doing wrong, please help only got a week before I need to use this thing properly!!
Regards,

Hi,
Forget last post! Done some more reading, appears the files must be .CSV file type. I did read that you could just change the file extension from ASC to CSV but that did not work. Anyway I managed to download the continental database, and also speed camera database from radarsfixes.com
