This is a german link. My grman stops at 'eine beer'. Is this just a patch for WM5 or is it a fix for anything else? Have you tried it? _________________ Tom Tom GO 720

Yes I tried it. It works with WM2003(SE) and WM5.
They fixed the bug with the favorites alert function.
Also start up time with a lot of favorites displayed is fixed. I tried all German/Autrian/Swiss speedcams and start up was just a few seconds slower.
After switching on your PDA there is a pause of 5sec. (the readme states, that this resolves the memory card was removed issue)
Installation:
remove the old PN version from youd PDA (don't forget to save your favorites etc.)
Copy main.cab (and tmc.cab) to the SD-card and execute them.
UK voice and skin is part of main.cab.
(I assume you wouldn't need the German.cab)
Remove of the old version seems to be necessary, cause two dlls are now installed in the Win-directory instead of the Destinator-dir.
And to improve your German: Bitte ein Bier _________________ D7

I don't suppose you know if they ahve got a patch for destinator OP to fix the favorites alert probs. I've never even see destinator op mentioned on their site.

On their German-Web-page Destinator OP isn't even mentioned.
They just have PN (PDA), ND (PNA) and SP (smart phone). _________________ D7

I know I just looked again and translated the page. I can't find it mentioned on any destinator site. I can only assume that it is the same as nd as this is also designed for pna's.
I have emailed destinator numerous times and they don't get back.
I think I might attempt to install another version of destinator onto my GNAV10 and see if it will work.

Here are some more "complete" installation instructions (from the German, adapted for us Brits ;) )
*** PLEASE READ ALL OF THIS POST BEFORE CONTINUING - FAILURE TO DO SO MAY RESULT IN YOU MISSING A VITAL STEP AND MESSING UP YOUR PPC! ***
1. Download the GERMAN patch - available here
2. Unzip the 2577 folder
3. Heed the warning in the text file that says (in German) "You must be running at least version 5.1.65 of Destinator" - Don't blame me if you don't heed the warning and you try to use this "fix" on an older version of D: PN!!!
4. Get your D: PN CD1 and place it in the CD drive
5. Open the 2577 folder that you extracted and then open the AddOns directory
6. From your <CD drive>:\Indep\2577\lang directory, copy the language that you want to use - in my case it was EnglishUK.cab, to the AddOns folder.
7. DELETE the German.cab file (if you're not using it)
8. Copy the 2577 directory to an SD card in the device (or using a card reader if you prefer).
9. *** VERY IMPORTANT *** Remove any current installation of D: PN from your PPC before continuing. Weird stuff is likely to happen if you don't do this step.
10. REMOVE the SD card from the PPC (if you copied in-situ) and then re-insert the SD card. The application will now install automatically.
11. Soft reset the PPC.
12. Run D: PN from your Start Menu\Programs!!!!
I've found that it works fine on my HP hx2750 WM5 device, the menus are all there and correct with only a small issue of the keyboard icon appearing at the bottom of the screen, but this is more of an annoyance than a hinderance.
I really hope this helps you guys. Enjoy!
- I posted this on the Mtekk forums (as PeeKay). Hope it helps you all. :D |

Hi
Installed the English version of the patch with no problem on my Mio 168.
Only difference I can detect is the Birds Eye View has changed (I preferred the previous implementation). Using the joystick to change the angle of view positions you too "high" rather than increasing the slant range (hope that makes sense!).
I don't use Speed Cameras with Destinator PN, so cannot comment on the new loading speed, as POI Observer gives individual messages and icons.

For some reason, post update, I have lost the ability to select com7 as my GPS port. I feed the data from com1 onto POI Observer then out to com7 for Destinator. POIObserver only lets me feed to COM0 or COM7 but in the GPS settings I can't see either anymore. Need some time with this but I suspect that the changes to the comport management to suit WM5 have knocked these ports out. In WM5 com sharing isn't a problem but I'm still on 2003 as most of us are. _________________ Tom Tom GO 720

Jimbo,
I use Com Port 8 which works OK. I'll check whether I have the other Ports later.

Jimbo
I'm using the latest POI Observer v2.1.0.0 and and VirtcomMgr v2.1.0.0 (thanks to your instructions). In Virtcom I can see Com 0, 5, 6, 7 & 8. Hope that helps.

Thanks for that Peter. I think the availability of Ports will be specific to the device you use. I use an Orange SPV M2000. What hardware are you running on? _________________ Tom Tom GO 720

Thanks for the translation :D worked a treat.
Q1:
Is there any need for the ALL and EnglishUK in
\DestinatorApps\Desintator\Common\Interface under the Voice and Visual? I assume the 'EnglishUK' in the configuration settings redirects but doesn't seem to do much as I try and get cameras working.
Q2:
Currently just get Favorites Alert splashed on the screen with same audio irrespective of my 141 file(s) , but at least the distances are not reset each time.
Q3:
Once I (hopefully) get Auto Alerts working, are they particular to the road and direction you are travelling on or is it just a 400 yard radius of current location?
Regards
Bob |
