No matter what I do, I can't get TomTom5 to see my Bluetooth BT-338 Sad
I can connect to the 338 with the Bluetooth manager, I can pair the 338 too. I can see the 338 working quite happily with the supplied test s/w.
I'm selecting other Bluetooth device, Bluetooth com port 7, ( I checked this is correct), but no GPS device is detected.

I have tried not pairing the device, not connecting via the Bluetooth manager, not connecting to the gpsinfo test s/w. I've also tried the reverse.

Previously, I used a Holux combined GPS mount, and this worked a treat.

Any advice would stop me from going mad!

Cheers
Ollie

Hi Ollie_Motto
When TT5 was first released I was in the same position as you and ready to throw my PDA and GPS receiver in the nearest canal. However, thanks to this forum help was at hand an all was sorted. But first of all tell us what PDA you use and how you first configured the GPS receiver,
You own the best GPS receiver available (I have one) and depending on your PDA all will eventually turn out fine. I’m just off to work but when I return tonight I will probably find someone has got you up and running ok.

Hi Ollie_Motto,

It is useful to know the make and model of your PDA. However here’s how I set up my HP iPAQ h2210 with TomTom Navigator 5 and a GlobalSat BT-338 GPS receiver.

Once you have paired the BT-338 with your PDA, In TTNav5, you need to configure GPS with:

Other Cable NMEA GPS
GPS baud rate of 38400
Bluetooth Serial Port COM8: (on an iPAQ 2210)

As I said above, the BT Port COM8 is for a 2210 and it may be different for your PDA.

If the above doesn’t work, then:

1. Which version of TomTom Navigator are you using? If it’s not the latest go to the TomTom website and install the latest version. Don’t forget to backup your PDA (Sprite backup) and your storage card.

2. If you have a BT enable PC, you can use SiRF Demo to check that the BT-338 is in NMEA mode and not SiRF mode. TomTom Navigator 5 can’t use SiRF data.

Regards,

Hi Ollie,

Make sure you have closed down the GPS info programme supplied with the receiver....as you can see it working with that then all would seem fine. Shut down the programme completely before configuring the receiver with Tom Tom (there is a softkey on the programme interface to stop it running) otherwise Tom Tom will never see the receiver. I struggled for ages with the same PDA/Receiver combinationuntil i did this!

Once the GPSInfo programme is turned off configure in Tom Tom as "Other Cable GPS", 4800 Baud etc etc....I cant remember now which com port i used (I now have a Ipaq 4700) but just keep going through the list and eventually you should find the correct one! It will take a few seconds to find the GPS signal so be patient.

I believe the new TTv5.2 has solved the bluetooth issue and you can now configure it using the "Other Bluetooth Device" option but if that doesnt work use "Other Cable GPS" as indicated above....I suspect its simply that the GPSinfo programme might still be turned onthat is causing the problem.

Hope this helps.

All the Best,

Andrew

Sorry, in my frustration, I forgot to mention I have a Dell Axim X30.
Many thanks for all your advice, as soon as I stopped trying to select other wireless GPS recievers and selected WIRED, TT5 flew into action, wow:-)
It all works fine now, again, many thanks.

Cheers
Ollie
