Hi, I'am a newcomer to satellite navigation. I have just purchased a XDA 2 and Tomtom Nav 5 software. Now I have an issue, which receiver should I buy? Bluetooth or wired and how many satellites do I need to track? Can anyone offer me some advice please? |

Welcome to the forum, the choise on the GPS unit depends on what you want to do with it and price, if its for nothing more than car based usage go for a wired unit (they are cheaper as well), if you want to use it for walking etc. then the versatility of a good bluetooth unit enters into its own - in either case I would sugest a SiRF III equipped based device, the Holux unit I use is incredible, aquiring fixes inside buildings etc. Very impresive (not that I would ever recomend setting one up inside that is) - Mike |

..depends whether you want trailing wires all over the place. That's how I started. Certainly cheaper but a lot messier.

Agreed. You might also want to consider a Globalsat BT338.
How many satellites? The minimum necessary to give you an accurate fix - half a dozen or so should do the job. Quantity doesn't equate to quality.
