Traffic information - TomTom vs Smartnav?

OK, so I'm in the market for a new satnav system for my car.

I was a TomTom 3 user of about 18 months, until my company PDA got pinched from my car a few months back. Since then I've been rediscovering how bad I am at finding my way around, and it's high time I sorted something out.

I was pretty happy with TomTom, and am strongle considering one of the Go products. However a friend has been a Smartnav user for a couple of years and I wanted to consider that as well. Using TomTom I quickly got used to planning routes, and the interface and maps were excellent. However there have been time when I've had a to make a mid route change, and as such the totally hands free operation of the Smartnav has some appeal.

However of particular interest, and the real point of my post, relates to traffic information. Both systems support real time updates of course, but I'm interested to know if there's any concensus on the comparitive quality of the data. I'm guessing that Smartnav should be better, as it uses the TrafficMaster network. However this theory might not make any practical difference. Has anyone used both, or have there been any direct comparisons?
