Posted: Sun Jan 01, 2006 4:10 pm Post subject: Navigator 5 Full Postcode support |
|
|
Hi I've just upgraded - if that is the right word - from Navigator 3 to Navigator 5.
I'm using an iPaq 2210 and SysOnCFplus GPS and 1gig SD card- and eventually managed to install application and UK maps - despite Tom Tom instructions!
I can still only get three digit postcode support.
I have already searched other posts suggesting .zip folder (containing Great Britain Pstal code files) and empty TomTom folder on SD card along with GreatBritain Plus Map folder - without progress.
Can anyone offer please help - in very very simple terms - for a complete novice - well out of my depth already?
Assume zero prior knowledge and I'll be well flattered!!
Thanks in advance. |

When you install the GB Map there is an option to install the GB Postcode File. It's on CD1. _________________ Richard

If you have installed the Postcodes correctly, are you using Navigate to ...> Postcode or Navigate to ... > Address? _________________ Richard

To expand upon what Richard said above, you can enter a 4 digit postcode in the address, which will get you fairly close, but you still need to complete the details. But if you click onto the next menu page, you will see the postcode icon - click on this and you can enter the full 7 digit postcode. A lot of people missed this when TT5 first came out

If you look on the tomtom cd you'll see a folder called zip
that folder needs copy and pasting to your ppc in the very directory
the one that has folders named program files, windows, my documents etc
then restart your ppc and pim pam poof 7 digit postcodes

Doh ! I was trying to enter the 7 digit postcode in the address section. The minute I went on the next page and tried the postcode section it works.
In my defence the instructions don't offer any clues to the change from version 3.....
Thanks for your help Oldboy, Robin2 and hircos :D |

Where does the Zip File go on the TomTom card - is it the Great Britian Map folder? |

The postal code file is actually Great_Britain, it should reside in a folder named zip which needs to be in the root of the memory card (SD/CF as applicable), you will also need a folder named tomtom in the root of the SD card to get it to work - Mike |

I am still confused, sorry. On my C Drive on my Computer I have a back up directory of TomTom N5 which contains aZIP folder which has a post code file in it. But NO Zip folder on my TomTom Card and can find NO reference to a Post Code file on my card. Sorry for being a nuisance. |

You need to create a folder called zip in the root of the SD card, then copy the post code file from the PC to this loaction on the PDA. Also create a folder in the root of the SD called tomtom - this will get it to work - Regards Mike |

Are you using Navigate To ... > Address or Navigate ... > Postcodes?
If you are navigating to Postcode it probably means you don't have an empty TomTom Folder or the Zip Folder (or both) in the root of the SD Card. _________________ Richard

The TomTom Folder should be on the SD card at the same level as the Zip Folder.

Yes. They can both be in the Folder. _________________ Richard

If you have the CD, why don't you then just run the installer and choose to install the GB postcodes to your PocketPC's storage card? Then you don't have to bother about correct folder locations. _________________ GO1005
