|
|
For the last few days, I have had problems with the backlight flickering, and sometimes going out completely, when I am driving.
It seems worse when I am going over a particularly bumpy stretch of road, if I fiddle with the power connector at the bottom of the Mio or with the USB cable (for TMC connector) it will sometimes get the backlight to come back on, but not always.
Whenever I power off the Mio for a few hours and then power on again, the back light is fine again.
Does this sound like a hardware problem, maybe a loose connector, should I get it RMA'd back to GlobalPositioningSystems? Or is it down to how it is mounted in the car, is the default car mount not good enough?
Any help greatly appreciated. |

Flickering backlight is a sign of external power being connected and disconnected continuously.
Explore the guilty part along that line. _________________ Pc-Mobile

Thank you for that.
Could this be something like a faulty cable then, which could cause this? |

It can be anything from the PDA/connector/cable down to the power source.
That is why it needs "exploring". _________________ Pc-Mobile

Ok, not exactly sure what to 'explore', but with my limited knowledge of this kind of thing, have tried to eliminate particular cables etc.
It doesn't seem to matter whether I use the 12V in car cable or the 240V mains adapter, and also it doesn't make any difference whether the power goes through the TMC adapter, or is plugged directly into the Mio. I stll get the same flickering, and this is even at home, with the unit lying on my desk.
Even when it is flickering, if I remove all power to it, it still continues to flicker for some while, until it gradually seems to settle down. Could it be anything to do with the battery connector inside? Or is it possible that the power connector socket on the Mio is at fault. I have no way of testing either of these things.
Thank you for your help. |
