I have just bought a Tomtom one and am delighted with it!

Installation of camera database and other pois very simple thanks to helpful info on this forum. Very useful!! However (almost?) every mobile camera was not there on the road. Presumably the point of the mobile cameras is to be where not expected. I wonder how useful this part of the database is, if the cameras are moved every day and the database only updated monthly? Is this the experience of others too? I am considering deleting the mobile cameras from the tomtom.

One or two map errors only in first 1000 miles of use. (Reported to tomtom, but not serious.)

The mobile sites in our database are locations where camera vans have been known to park and trap. The sites may not be used every day, but they are a potential site.

That’s your decision, but please bear in mind that the mobile sites are known locations where camera vans have been seen before.

Regards,

The mobile scamera patrols are not always terribly inventive. They are creatures of habit and tend to frequent the same places over and over again :D

May I suggest you visit your local speed camera website, mine in Northumberland lists 25 fixed cameras and 21 mobile sites which are “used in rolling rotation according to the collision history at that site” (not very helpful I know). To get a better feel for what to expect at these sites visit http://www.abd.org.uk/talivan.htm - a mobile warning is at best a signal to exercise caution rather than to expect to see a camera.

Cheers

This thread has opened my eyes to the psychology of mobile speed traps. I see that my local scheme even advertises in advance where the cameras are going to be.

I'll definitely leave the mobile sites in my Tomtom!!

Thanks for the help! :D
