Is your computer set up to show hidden files

If not you may not have copied it all across

To see hidden files on your system :

1) Open Windows Exlorer
2) From the Tools menu, select "Folder Options"
3) Click the "View" tab
4) About the 9th item down, select "Show hidden files and folders"

However, you shouldn't really keep this set if you don't know all about the system files on your computer - you could delete one sometime and stop your system working....

It's best to do the backup and restore via your TomTom using the TomTom software that came on your CD.

That's true but you've not advised Towunda to show 'protected operating system files', which is much more likely to cause major problems if deleted. So the really important files will remain hidden as they should be.

Yep - true :D I forgot there was an extra option there about the system files...

Towunda are you doing this backup through your TomTom, or through a separate card reader?

You should try connecting the TomTom to your computer through the USB lead and then use the Backup/Restore software that came with the TT. When you put the CD in the drive, the first option (I think) is to back/restore.

When you say the TT doesn't like it, what's happening on the TT after you've completed the restore?

Maybe your TT doesn't like the card you have. You should check the first thread at http://www.mytomtomgo.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=18&sid=505a1ed5cdc3db6e36fb1b1b1c334efd to see if it's been a problem with other users.

512MB is certainly not too large for your TT.

when I put the copied card in I get an illistration of the TT and an animated picture of the card coming out and then a red cross on the card.

Don't know if you saw my post about checking your card at http://www.mytomtomgo.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=18&sid=505a1ed5cdc3db6e36fb1b1b1c334efd because I posted it soon after my last post!

Try formatting the new card again and trying the restore again through your TT.

yeah, I just been looking at that site, looks like a few others have had the same problem. I'll give the formatting a go but it might be that I need to change the brand of card. Thanks everyone - you been great! :D
