Is there any way with TT5 of increasing the size of the speed display ? |

I too would like an answer to this as well but I think it's been answered before that it's not possible. It's one of those annoying things that was better on TT3. So much for progress. |

Is your display showing e.g. Remaining Distance, Arrival Time and Speed?
If so, Go into Change preferences and scroll across to Page 4.
Tap Status bar preferences then untick Remaining Distance and Arrival Time. This will leave you with just the speed which will show larger than before. |

Thanks, but I'm afraid that's throwing out the baby with the bathwater - I want those as well but happy with them small. What I want is when alerted to a camera to be able to have a quick glance at the TT screen to check my speed (given I will already be looking at that after receiving the alert). What would be even nicer is to have it flash the whole screen if you are exceeding the speed limit, but that's another story. |

The only way is to change the screen orientation to landscape - that way for some reason known only to Tom Tom the speed indication is much larger. Alternatively have you tried looking at the big dial directly in front of you? :D _________________ Peter

That's useful to know thanks, I'll try it

I know you meant that flippantly, but the point I was making above is that I'm already looking at TT to see what the alert was - every millisecond counts when you are 250 yards from a camera. |

I'm running the latest version of Checkpoint with TTN5 and I also have been disappointed that they have reduced the size of the actual speed. It was much better before, (TTN3) and in particular, if you didn't have a route planned it would be huge on the left side, in place of the route instructions. Also, I think there is justification for looking at TT rather than the speedo, as I have used mine in 5 or 6 different cars now, and I haven't yet found one with an accurate speedo. Most are at least 5mph out at 70mph and that can be the difference between ticket or no ticket!
Anyway, as I said I use Checkpoint, and you can set up a speed warning. Since the speed camera database has been split into speed rated cameras, you can download (or record your own) speed warning messages through the Checkpoint site which will only sound if you are exceeding the limit for that particular camera. It works really well. Give it a try! |

If when you are travelling at 70 mph the speedo is out by 5 mph, you cannot be doing 75 but 65, therefore no ticket. |

How is that? I would have thought if you have a 5mph error, then that could be 5 above OR 5 below? |

Speedometers are designed to never underread - any tolerance is only allowed in the positive (10%+4km/h on paper, 5%+10km/h in practice). This is the case within the EC at least so I can't comment on the US for example.
However, the type approval applies (or at least is tested) at the time of manufacture so it could be feasible, yet unlikely, that a speedo loses adherence to the allowed tolerances over time and thus could underread. In my (albeit) limited observations I have never seen a case of this.

Actually, now it's been mentioned I realise that is the main reason why I want to see the speed on TT, becasue it is accurate. I *know* I can take it to the limt and not be speeding. However, with a real speedo you cannot assume you have a 10% tolerance in case it is actually accurate. |

Wow... it sounds like you must be in a real rush!
Do you take the racing line on all corners, including those in car parks? |

I don't see that wanting to drive *at* the speed limit is such a rush, particularly when that happens to be 30mph on a dual carriageway. |

remember the tomtom speed display is averaged over (I think) the last 10 seconds - you can see this as you coast to a halt, or accelerate away. The speed shown definately is not "real time". |
