I am going on a Euro trip next year all the way from Scotland to Barcelona. I would like to up load Harley dealers in Benelux, France and Spain.

How do I do this?

I dont suppose there is a resource that will already have such data? I have uploaded the speed camera files and wondered if I could use this as a template and simply change the data? (sounds a bit too simple that Confused )

TIA

Been doing some more research and find that Harley has in fact linked up with Garmin to provide Satnav on some models and the data available will include HD dealerships.

I understand that Garmin and Navman use Tele Atlas maps, so can I convert Garmin info to use on my Navman 510? If so, how? Smile

Sorry to disappoint you but Garmin use Navteq maps and the two are incompatible. I would contact HD and get the details of all their dealerships, then create your own POI file.

You could try this site http://www.harley-davidson.com/wcm/Content/Pages/Dealers/dealers.jsp?locale=en_GB
and get a list of dealers direct from them.

This site http://www.getoutguide.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/poidownloads/index.htm
lists a great number of POIs for the Navman.

If you are not familiar with creating POIs, get one from here and then copy the format to make your own Harley dealerships POIs - there don't appear to be that many Exclamation
You will need to get the coordinates and I suggest if you have Autoroute, you can ID the dealers location from that and then use the decimal coordinates to make your POIs.

In Autoroute, you will need to change the units from degrees, minutes, seconds to decimal degrees. ie Tools > Options > Units. The you can enter the exact coordinates that the POI data needs.

Hope this helps.. Wink

This is very helpful. Thanks :D The HD thing I am familiar with but the blueyonder info is ace!!

As I have a very old issue of Autoroute I will need to upgrade before I go any further. I will get an updated issue this week Wink

I have had a look at the speed camera files and entries are listed so:

Longitude Latitude Name
-2.08936 53.5027 GATSO:6355@20

I assume to insert a Grid reference for a HD dealer I only need the Long/Lat or decimal equivalent? What about the NAME field?

Once again, thanks, this is a great help Smile

1. Make sure the Long/Lat is in decimal.
2. The name field can be anything you want but limited to eight characters - say, 'Harley'

To convert coordinates to decimal devide by 60.

Good luck Wink

Gee-Pee,

Are you confusing the "Name" field with the Filename, perhaps?

The "Name" can be as long as you like, I think, whereas the Filename can only be upto eight characters. Mind you, it can only be letters unless the original filename contains numbers. I've never tried other characters.

FXRStuarty,

The actual format required for import into the Navman devices is

Long, Lat, "Name"

Its the "Name" field shown alongside the Longtitude and Latitude I am concerned about. What must go in to that name field? For example:

HD Dealer in Barcelona Longtitude is 41.396666 Latitude is 2.1414. What shoud be shown in the "Name" field in your example:

I assume this could be "HD Barcelona"?

It could indeed be "HD Barcelona, but if you're only going to create an HD dealerships file, I'd suggest that the HD bit is redundant.

Furthermore, the 5xx series will only display the first fifty entries unless you select some of the beginning characters. For instance, if you have 200 entries and the first 50 take you upt the letter 'F', you won't be able to see any entries from 'G' onwards unless you enter 'G' into the search field.

Having all your entries beginning with 'HD' will restrict your searches somewhat. When I create POIs, I try to put something a bit more descriptive as the "Name".

As an example, there are three dealers listed in Paris

I would probably name them

Beaumarchais, Rosenwald and Grand Armee, as that reflects the roads they are on.

Yes, indeed, Tim. You are, of course, correct. Embarassed GP

That is the correct format, so it should work.

Another question (sorry). If I wish to add to a file I have already uploaded must I add the new detail to the original file and upload the whole file again? Will I get an option to overwrite what is already there?

TIA

Yes, you do have to edit the original file and upload again, I think. I always delete the existing file first, then upload the new one. I've never tried overwriting an existing one. Perhaps you could try it and let me know. Smile
