I have bought a Magellan eXplorist 200 GPS Receiver, this unit has the USA base map on it, would it be possible to load the European base map in its place instead? |

Cheers …….. if I'd given it half a thought I'd not have bought it, but never mind as you said there must be a way around it .. I've only myself to blame
Just thought that someone might have come across it or indeed had resolved a problem similar ... all the best to everyone :D |

I have managed to contact someone at Magellan or Thales as they prefer to be know as …. Anyhow its possible to have the USA base map removed and the European base put in its place … the cost is a touch over £60
So if anyone ever susses out how it can be done other than having to pay what amounts to virtually 55% of the original cost of the unit was I’d much appreciate it …. Next time I will learn more about the item I’m buying before I go in feet first. |

@Hoggy: If Magellan/Thales say it is possible then you can possibly do it yourself (tho you would require the European basemap). Have a search through the Magellan section of these forums (or elsewhere on the net) to find how to access the hidden menus, (most systems have them). If you do manage to find a way in, post your find somewhere and maybe someone (who has a unit with the European basemap) may be able to extract if from their system (via a serial/usb link). If you then ask them very nicely they might e-mail you the basemap. This is just an observation on my part but you never know what can happen (as this is similar to the approach I used to change the basemap within my Meri-Gold) :D. _________________ I didn't do it, it was like that when I got here HONEST |

If you or anyone know of a site that might have this kind of info I would appreciate you letting me know, I've looked and not found any sites/forum as yet, but I'm not the best at using search engines I end up with also sort of rubbish |

Hi Hoggy,
Your best bet would be:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/eXplorist/
I found something similar for my Merridian Colour GPS - which was very useful.
