|
|
When using my iPAQ hx4700 with Tomtom 5 Navigator (version 5.20) and Tomtom bluetooth GPS receiver, the screen on the hx4700 freezes after approx 1 hour's use. This is extremely frustrating when travelling!! The software is still functional as I continue to get audio instructions.
I can only un-freeze the screen by performing a soft rest.
The problem starts again after another hour's journey.... very annoying!!
Does anyone have any ideas as to what is causing the problem??
All replies greatly appreciated. _________________ Allan

What ROM version do you have - If you don't have 1.10 then this can occur.
In addition, what other applications do you have running? _________________ iPhone5, TomTom, Google maps, Navfree, Viewranger and Apple Maps (ekk) |

Thanks for reply Simon.
The Rom version as shown on the hx4700 is "1.10.08 ENG"
When running the Tomtom software I don't have any other applications running as I do a soft reset to ensure that I have maximum RAM resources available.

Ok.. Version 5.2 or 5.21 of TomTom. SANDISK 512 card maybe an issue (although I doubt it). Have you tried using another SD card or better still try it on CF if you can. (I do use a SANDISK 1gb myself- so I cannot really talk can I!).
Failing that check the SD card is functioning correctly (Speed test) and that the SD card does not need defragging. _________________ iPhone5, TomTom, Google maps, Navfree, Viewranger and Apple Maps (ekk) |

Hi Simon,
Never thought about defragging SD card!! ............ have just downloaded Storage Tools for Pocket pc and tested card. It was partially fragmented, so defragged and will try a test journey again to see what happens. Have ordered a Sandisk Ultra II 512Mb and will give that a go when it arrives.
Thanks for help.

Simon
Solution found!!
Tried defragging/formatting SD card as you suggested but problem still apparent.
I purchased a Sandisk Ultra II 512 Mb SD card and transferred data onto that. I dialled in a 2 hour test route and drove whole course. I didn't encounter any screen freezes during the 2 hours. After returning home, I followed same shutdown procedures as with old SD card, but this time I was able to close software and shutdown PDA with no problems.
Looks like higher speed SD card was required to alleviate problem!
Thanks for your help.

Nuttyal - Glad to see that it worked.
I bought an Ulta II CF card for my Camera and the speed is incredible.
Although I do not have the Ultra II SD card, I may purchase one for a personal Xmas present! _________________ iPhone5, TomTom, Google maps, Navfree, Viewranger and Apple Maps (ekk) |

Sounds like the same problem that affects the xda2i and the same solution (higher speed card needed). |
