Since I successfully downloaded the camera database yesterday it is now working and picking up cameras. However it does not announce them properly.

It says:- "Aproaching in 0.2 mile 1 in 1 pocketgps_safetycamera_UK_SC" or somethins similar.

No nention of the unique number or the speed?

Sorry, need help again!

The strange 'pocketgps ...' text comes from the name of the OV2 and BMP files. You need to rename them to 'Speed Cameras.*' - something which ALK fail to note on their support forum.

The speed is missing because the OV2 files still contain the '@' character that stops the following text from being spoken.

There is a bug in the initial release that causes the second half of a POI alert to be delayed until the beginning of the next alert, so making the alerts sound back to front. ALK have said that this will be fixed in their first patch.

Thanks again Ian.

Bit of a pest but at least I'm now being alerted to the cameras.

Roll on the fix.

Useful explanation - thanks.

I must admit I was a but underwhelmed with the speed camera alerts, having to look at the screen and work out from the text what the speed limit was. I had been thinking about reformatting the data to make it more sensible, but I'll probably wait for the patch now.

The '@' sign problem was resolved with CP5 by PocketGPSWorld, by them providing a CP-specific version of the CSV files. Given that CP6 is supposed to be using the 'universal' TomTom OV2 files, they might not be so willing to provide an alternate copy.

I don't know whether ALK will be able to fix the '@' problem themselves within the next patch.

Currently, I use the TomTom DUMPOV2 and MAKEOV2 utilities to allow me to edit the OV2 file with Excel, to replace '@' by ' AT ', and the colon by space.

The files are deleted as soon as they have been imported - so you won't find anything to rename. You will need to reload them after renaming them.

However, first delete all of the AOPOI*.* files in the save directory, or you will end up with two copies. Deleting those files will remove all of your Custom POI's, so if you imported any others, you will need to reimport those again as well.

Ian,

When I do that, MAKEOV2 seems to be creating another column of double quotes before the name of the camera and then it doesn't work in copilot6. I've tried this in both csv format and txt format. When I did a DUMPOV2 of the newly created OV2 the extra column showed up. Any ideas?

The edited text file that you pass into MAKEOV2 should look something like this ...
Code:
; Readable locations in pocketgps_uk_sc.ov2
;
; Longitude,    Latitude, "Name"
; ========== ============ ==================================

  -5.35235 ,   50.20901 , "GATSO 1518 AT 60"
  -5.34178 ,   50.21175 , "GATSO 1972 AT 60"
  -7.64851 ,   54.33752 , "MOBILE 0773 AT 60"
...

Make sure that you haven't added any extra commas, or removed the double-quotes. The format of the commented-out column headings may also be important.

Nothing's changed from CP5 then ?? I reported this exact same problem when using CP5. What's been done to recitfy it since then. Absolutely SWEET F.A.!! Why doesn't that surprise me ?

In this respect, TomTom is 'Meelez' ahead (have they fixed this yet ??). After downloading the Camera Database, TomTom will clearly announce; "Warning, Gatso ahead, speed limit 30 miles per hour". None of the rediculous ' Approaching 1 of 1 in pont 2 of mile' nonsence.

I have kept reading the CoPilot forum in the hope that ALK would (after the shambles of CP5), have produced the killer application that it promised to be. But nothing that I have read so far would lead me to that conclusion.
