I recently bought a Holux GPSlim236, which seems to work fine. I use it with Pocket PC (XdaIIs) and the following applications:
- GPS Viewer (from Holux)
- GPSDash
- Anquet maps
- GPSGate Express (to allow me to use 2 of above apps at same time)

So, here are the questions:
How do I know what firmware (?) I have on the receiver?
How do I upgrade firmware, if necessary?
How do I switch "static navigation" on/off, if I want to?

Finally, EGNOS:
Is any part of this system working?
Should I be able to detect the satellites (in UK)?
I can toggle the WAAS/EGNOS setting on my GPS Viewer on the Pocket PC, but I have no idea if it is doing anything...!
Is there any down side to leaving WAAS permanently enabled (eg higher power consumption)?

And another thing....how do I translate DOP (Dilution of Position) into an error bound expressed as meters?

I feel better for that. I hope someone can help.
Regards
Steve

You can use SiRFDemo to find out the firmware version and to switch Static Navigation

WAAS/EGNOS tends to have a negative impact on SiRF III receivers - DOP numbers can actually get worse. Unless you need to have the stationary accuracy you can leave SBAS off

DOP can loosely be translated into metres. But keep in mind that this is statistical information, and has no real metric value.

Thanks for reply. I don't have the special cable needed to connect my GPSlim236 to a PC. If possible I would rather connect by Bluetooth. Would I be able to use the SIRF DEMO software with the GPS and the PC connected by BT?
