changing 16 bit wav to 8 bit

how do you change a 16 bit wav file to a 8 bit wav file my icn520 doesnt like the 26 bit so want to try it with 8 bit got the cam wav files just need to convert them unless some one has them in 8 bit they can let me try them thanks in advance

Should be able to open the sound file and either
1) "save as" which may give a choice of bit rates (but depends on the program)
2) use a convert facility in the menu to adjust the bit rate and then do a "save as".

Just make sure you keep a safe copy of the original sound file.
