I bought a TomTom ONE yesterday - my first SatNav. I have pretty much figured out how to use it, and that I should buy a bigger SD card to store POIs etc.

This might be a daft question, but can I just buy a bigger card, copy all the files over, then sell the original card to get back what i have to pay for the new card? Not sure if there's a market for this kind of thing, but it's obviously not a copy, as it's got the sticker on.

Question

you can sell the card but it will be useless without the product code. The buyer would probably get very angry at you for selling a defunct product that he/she can't activate.

Oh, did I mention that it's not legal to resell the TT license (according to TomTom, your country's jurisdiction may vary)?

You can copy over with no problem. But you can't sell - apart from a breach of licence, it will not work at the next upgrade. Or, if it does, yours won't.

At upgrade, or after a major restore, or whenever.... the GO will ask for an activation code. This code is supplied by TomTom after you provide the map code and the GO code on www.ttcode.com . Once your map code has been entered against a GO device and an activation code issued.....that's it. It won't allow you to use that code on another device.

Anyway a new 256 blank can be got for £10 or so.

What size is the ttgo 300? Is it 128mb?
If i got a 256 blank, could I copy the original onto it, then just keep the original as my back up?
Where can you get the blank cards from?
Thanks

Hi There

Are you selling the card with or without the software and maps on? if you are selling it without then you're just selling an SD card and that's OK.

If you are selling it with and still intend to use the software with your one - it's illegal as you are still the licence holder of the SW.

Notwithstanding it won't work as the activation code is unique to your unit just because you've moved the software to another storage card doesn't mean you can sell the copy on your old card as original.

ally,

most of us have copied the original to a blank card and kept it for emergencies. And also put a copy on the computer hard disc. That will be fine.

Blank cards can be got from most satnav/camera/computer places. Cheapest are on-line from people like mymemory.co.uk or 7dayshop or any of the advertisers on this page - even Tesco have them now (but not that cheap). Make sure it's an SD card (not the MMC that looks the same from outside) or a mini SD card.

www.mymemory.co.uk are doing a 256 card for £12 or so. I'm sure the others will offer something similar.

Cheers again sgould, I already have a copy on the PC, but would feel better if I can also keep the original card as complete back up too, I'll check out those places for bigger cards, then try the camera thing again. Smile
