Keith, is the unit running the O2 Active software, as that is known to mess the device up. Secondly it could be down to the speed and type of SD card employed, try looking in the windows 2003SE smart phone forum below for the card that works, I think its a thread started by andy-C1 - cheers Mike

Keith, I think you have just found the answer to your problem (or most of it). Unfortunatly stopping the O2 Active will not cure the problem, you need to remove it, the bad news is tad difficult to fully remove it requires a hard reset and a re-load of the software from the CD's (Don't use a backup as that will make it worse), when the phone re-boots following the hard reset, sit with it and when prompted for personal or corporate mode go for corporate and enter the numeric code 0506, this prevents the rubish being loaded - if you still experience problems then it wll more than likely be the SD card typr secondly it does work fine without it - Mike

Keith, I have done this on the baseline XDAII and it does offer the screen to select the mode, but not for too long - hence the "sit with it" if you miss the oppertunity then it stupidly defaults to the "Personal Mode" - I think you get around 5 to 10 seconds to select and the screen will be dim at this point therefore difficult to read - Mike
