Configuring a Garmin GPS 12 for Ireland

I have brought back a Garmin GPS 12 from the USA. In trying to set it up for Ireland I have configured through Navigation Setup the Position Format to Irish Grid and the Map Datum to Ireland 1965. Does anybody know if this is correct and do I need to change any additional settings for Ireland. The reason I ask is that while experimenting with Way Points over the weekend, what I had marked does not seem to correspond with the map when using a roamer to try and accurately determine where I am.
