Hi,

I've just bought a Toshiba 350 with TomTom Nav 2. I have downloaded the new 2.24 Nav stuff and the 2.06 drivers but I am still unable to get a GPS Connection. I live in Dorset...is there any selections I can make to attempt a connection? Should the PDA connect as soon as I plug the car kit in and then into the bottom of the PDA? I see people talking and different connection methods etc....should I be trying something else? Im assuming my activation codes went through ok. Do the activation codes just allow software installation or is it the GPS referencing as well?

Any help would be gratefully received.

Thanks

I'm assuming you have the TomTom Navigator 2 cabled GPS ? You need to make sure your ignition is on first, then run up TomTom Navigator, if you go to MAP view and then FILE | GPS STATUS. The first screen should show TomTOm Navigator GPS (COM1). If correct, make sure the tick box is ticked. This is the soft power on. If you then tap the Status tab, you should see either some red bars, or gray bars. Gray bars mean it's obtaining a fix, red means it has a fix on several satellites.

Half way down on the right hand side, you'll see a satellite dish with some dots and then a Pocket PC icon. You should have black dots moving along this line. If you don't, then you're not receiving any data from the GPS Receiver.

When you've installed TomTom Navigator 2, you need to install the maps, and then activate them. This unlocks the maps to your Pocket PC and allows you to use the maps.

Where abouts in Dorset ?

The ignition was used...the receiver was just pulsing green. The maps are working fine, I've demo destinations etc...The location is Portland in Dorset. I've heard stuff like Dorchester is still listed as Oxfordshire. Im just wondering if Im in a dark spot.

The box is ticked, next to it is listed as Serial/USB...the gray bars dont move. At first before I got the upgraded drivers the USB drivers wouldnt detect...that issue I believe has now been resolved. Still cant get a GPS signal though.

Thanks for your help.

If you've got gray vertical bars it means it's obtaining a signal, but hasn't got all the information from each satellite to make it go red.

I would move the GPS Receiver outside of the car and see if this changes as you might have a heat reflective windscreen causing interference.
