|
|
Driving along as normal with antennae wired up, then lost satellite reception (not even one red bar) for a 10 mile journey. Checked the i3 without the aerial on foot in open space, then plugged in aerial, and again no green (or red) bars. Plugged my spare aerial in and the same happened.
I'm at a complete loss at to why this has happened or how to fix? Need aerial for i3 to function properly as I have one of 'those' windscreens!
If anyone can shed light on this, it would be much appreciated
Thanks

Can only suggest a hard reset, but assuming this does fix it then it could be a software problem, are you running the latest firmware? if not maybe try updating it, if all else fails its gonna have to be a replacement unit!

It would appear I can't resolve the problem and I now have a useless satnav - I bought the i3 on day of release (1st Sept '05) from Maplin HQ over the phone and surprise surprise, I can't currently find the receipt. Can anyone offer any sound advice of what to do next - for instance, as I bought over the phone do you think that Maplin could release a duplicate receipt?.............. |

Did you register the unit with Garmin? Even if you didn't I would suggest that you give them a ring and explain the situation, after all seeing as they've been available for less than a year it will still be in warranty without proof so long as the serial number is of a unit sold in the UK. Apparently their customer service is pretty good. _________________ Chas

Did you use a credit card, you should have statement.
or
Contact Garmin, they will repair it as it's still under warranty. |

Thanks
Garmin do stipulate that they require a receipt due to ebayers - I have an online record of my purchase via my account on Maplin, but unsure how useful this will be??? |

Historically, Garmin have even replaced some GPS units out of warranty before, so it's well worth talking directly with them.
However, despite owning a Garmin unit, I've never had need to talk to them myself to speak from experience, I'm only commenting on the good feedback mentioned here. |

I've just sent my I3 back because of a problem with the speaker. I didn't have the receipt and was first told to send proof of purchase but when I called again (to book it in) they said not to worry just send the unit and they'll do the work under warrantly.
They were very helpful offering various solutions before suggetsing I return it. |

You don't have to have the receipt, as long as you have some way of proving you bought it, receipt, credit card statement or email, any should be fine. |

Thanks for all your replies - I've been given an Return Material Authorisation (RMA) number but not entirely sure of which address to send it to (forgot to ask!!!). Been waiting for Garmin to pick up phone now for 11 minutes! Does anyone know the correct address for repairs? |

Sent off i3 to Garmin and they've told me they will be sendiing me a replacement unit which is good news. Funnily enough, when I enquired about a duplicate receipt from Maplin (as I bought over the phone) they told me that they would also replace the unit which is interesting.
Anyway thanks for all the replies.

I have a bit of a wired problem, the map screen keeps freezing at the same point on the M57 the voice and distance to turn still work. It lasts until I leave the motor way at the end and then the map come back to life, any ideas. |

Just thought I'd update anyone that may be interested. Garmin have issued a replacement i3 in exactly a week and did not request receipt so 10/10 for service. Hopefully all is well with the new i3. Testing at weekend!!
