keeps asking to format when i put it in the pc, and the tomtom just hangs at the boot screen.
what can i do, or is it a case of TomTom support?

If you have a spare card, it may be worth trying to copy your backup onto that and see if that works, you could then reformat and re-copy your card that is currently a problem and see if that fixes it.
If you don't have a spare card, you could still reformat your card and copy your backed up files onto it again, however as you are reformatting you would need to be certain that your backup does indeed have a complete copy of your data.

What you're doing sounds right to me.
Sorry I don't know why you should be having the problem formatting the card. |
