Hi,

Confused and bewildered, I’ve been looking for a gps system for weeks, the more I read the more confused I get, so I’m asking for help. I think it’s easier to describe what I want to use the GPS for then ask for suggestions.

I’m planning a trip to Florida and would like to plan my own routes here in the UK before I leave.
For E.g.
Route 1 - Airport to hotel via supermarket
Route 2 - Hotel to attraction via scenic route of my choosing.

I need the unit to talk to me, and possibly tell me about Tolls (fees)
It would be nice if I could add my own “points of Interests”

The unit needs to be portable and fairly small. Will be in hire car.

We are also taking a Caribbean cruise, so it would be neat to plot our course and maybe use on exploring a Caribbean island or 2. (not essensial, but neat) Smile

On returning home occasional use in the car, the safety camera database would be useful.

I think I would prefer a PDA, an external antenna as an option, a car mount and a removable battery.

Not fussed about bluetooth, I don't even have a mobile phone.
But some connectivity with my home network might be useful in PDA mode.

Budget up to £500, but this would have to include all extras and all maps. (Complete package)

Any suggestions folks?

Thanks in advance
Peter

If it's just for a holiday then consider Mapopolis - they have a demo version that runs for nine days.

If you select a Pocket PC setup, go for a bluetooth enabled version. Much easier to handle with changing cars, ships etc.

For your cruise you can use OziExplorerCE or any other topographic software.
