TT5 (v 5.12) on Tungsten T5
I have the folder called TomTom (in fact it was installed on the SD card when it arrived, although it is not empty, containg files called 'do_not_remove.txt', 'TOMTOM.AID' and 'Munich.bin') but still can only enter 5 digit postcodes. What other hoops must I jump through to use the 7 digit codes? |

On mine, I have put an empty folder on the root of the SD Card and named it 'Tomtom' (try it without the speech marks). _________________ -------------------------------------------------------

No joy
Neither FileZ nor Palm's Files can create the folder, telling me that the folder already exists. I tried Tomtom and TomTom. Presumably Palm folder names are not case sensitive. If this is the case, then shouldn't the pre-installed TOMTOM folder do the trick? |

Hi Sonic,
Don't know about the Palm, but the extra hoops that worked for me were that you must NOT put a space between the digits, and then you still must tap on the 5 character postcode in the list. That then gives the road which you have to tap on as well.
Cheers, Alan. _________________ Garmin GPS72H/76/60/45, Etrex H, Mapsource v6.5.

What happens when you 'Navigate to...' and then select next screen and then 'Postcode' ?
You should see a list of 7 Digit PostCodes starting AB101AF and so on? _________________ Darren Griffin |

Hi Darran
I have go the same problem with post codes.
I have looked at all the help on here BUT still no good
When i 'Navigate to...' and then select next screen and then 'Postcode'
All I get up is a box at the top with postcode in it then a flashing curser
If I put in the AB101AF I then get a box come up with
xxx x (town)
I press on the one that as got the post code like the one I put in and all I get is a ROAD number like ab10 1 (aberdeen)
I have also put in the post code AB10 1AF but that makes no differnce
I also have a folder called tomtom on the root of the sd card
I'm at a loss to what to do next
Regards
Mary |

Mary, is there a zip folder on the SD card, if so what is contained in it? if its not there dock the PDA via active sync and using the CD install maps, check the box for postcodes - also try the advanced planning (screen 2) nav from postcode enter a known value, does it equate to where you think it should on the map -Mike |

Hi
After searching the forums for 7 digit postcodes I was very pleased to read the "fix" for making them work. :D
Problem is after trying every suggestion on here they still don't work for me.
BUT I think it may be my problem, the postal code zip file refered to in the instruction, does it have a .zip extension? The one I have been copying and pasting is called Great_Britain.Postal, is this correct or have I somehow mislaid the proper one?
Thanks in advance. _________________ Not that technical

The Postcode File is called Great_Britain.Postal and 'lives' in the Zip Folder. The Zip refers, possibly, to the USA Zip Codes.
It's not a Zip file in the WinZip sense. _________________ Richard

Thanks for the reply OldBoy, I don't have the zip folder, just the file. This is doing my head in now . Think I will wait til tomorrow when my super technical son visits and let him sort it for me .
Thank you again for being patient with me, its not your fault I'm a technophobe.
Will post here what the outcome is. _________________ Not that technical

What to do is, make a new folder on your SD card and call it 'Zip'. Then all you do is put the file called 'Great_Britain.Postal' inside that folder.
Then create another folder called 'TomTom' on your SD card and leave this empty.
It should now work. _________________ -------------------------------------------------------

Navigate to... Postcode... brings up the standard 'location chooser' page, with the letter and number entry keyboard in the lower part of the screen and the recent destinations above it. The top line has 'Postcode' and a flashing cursor. There is no list of UK postcodes starting at AB....., just the most recent destinations.
This will accept a 7-digit (even a 17-digit!) entry but the 'Pick-list' only takes account of the first 5 characters.
I have a folder called TOMTOM and another called ZIP which contains a file called Great_Britain.Postal
It should work, but it doesn't!
Configuration:- TT5 supplied on SD card, the contents of which have been copied to the T5's 'Internal Drive' in their entirety. TT5 is run fron the drive, the card is locked away for safe keeping. There is nothing else on the 'Internal Drive' apart from the speed camera files from your good selves. |
