I think that TomTom and CoPilot are the two main contenders for phones like the SPV M500.

You will notice on here that the TomTom forums have many more messages (and I therefore assume users) than CoPilot - and in my opinion, having used both, TomTom is by far the better product.

TomTom is far more configurable and has inspired a large number of 3rd pary add-ons. If you like tweaking and fiddling, TomTom is great fun. On a practical side, the monthly update of the Gatso speed cameras is a one mouse click exercise using PoiEdit with TomTom, but a hugely labourious Excel editing job with CoPilot (v5). The voice instructions in TomTom are much louder and clearer than CoPilot's. The CP simulated voice (dalek) instructions were too much for my MitacMio which constantly hung, forcing me to switch to using the wave files.

TomTom is not perfect and has its detractors, but having bought and used both CP5 and TT5 I never use CoPilot any more (but keep it on the PDA card just in case TT5 ever lets me down.).

No doubt other users will add their own contributions and advice.
