My new 520 is giving me confusing directions on cross roads. On the 3d map if I need to go straight over, the map shows this, but some times the directions tell me to turn left then right or to turn right then left, when this direction does not actualy exist. I have phoned navman they said that this is down to bad map drawing on the junction. If this is the case then why does the software not alow for this, or is this a fault on my device. If I look at the map on these juntions there does appear to be badly joined lines, but this is only a small amount.
Confused

It not so much the drawing of the road, or that the device can make allowances.

Each segment of road, from one junction to the next, has a variety of data attached to it by the map makers. At each end of the segment, there will be an entry for each exit, whether it is T-junction, Crossroads, or more complicated, a roundabout. It needs to know about no entries (a sore point when it comes to one-way streets) and also council restricted turns, even if not a one-way street.

It also has the category of road, the time it takes to travel that category, whether it is one or two way.

This is one reason it is not possible to correct your own maps.

I don't know if the 520 has the same problem, as a TT GO, at one roundabout, but try the junction of Middletons Lane and Reepham Road, just outside Norwich.

If you're able to find it with a Postcode NR65NX is right at the junction.

When you route past it, you get some funny directions.

So basically the data attached to the road junctions is shady. That means tele atlas are not doing the job that they are paid for then.

Thank you for letting me know how that works. Smile
