palm tungsten t fortuna u2

hi guys can anybody give a new user some advice please,have just bought palm tt with a fortuna u2(wired)have downloaded mapopolis+demo map of gb,just to try setup but everytime i try to run the start gps function i get the message"the gps unit could not be started",is this a hardware message or does this refer to the mapopolis software?,also anyone familiar with the fortuna u2,how can i test this to see if its working!u2 terminates in a ps2 type plug then into a flat multi pin plug into palm then into a usb lead,sorry this is a bit long winded,but beginning to believe i've bought a lemon,thanks terry
