I just took a look at the beta ver and I still see many mistakes in their map data. They need to pay attention to what people are sending in to correct this. Do business pay to have their names located on this software? So many of them are far off location that it's not a reliable reference. |

Free Mapsource programe updates from their website generally only manage *how* the data is mangaged; it doesn't include updated data.

If they don't want to update the data, then there is another solution:
Let them allow people to add there own maps, by making Map source to accept import maps from different formats like shape files. _________________ No pain No gain |

The data is updated, annually with newer versions of MapSource. |

MapSource 5.0.1 Beta was on the Garmin support page as of 13 June 2003 and was removed as of 16 June 2003.
Why? |

This isn't the first time I've seen this happen with Garmin. It's quite possible they've found a major bug and decided to recall it for the time being. |

Why?
I came across a problem when trying to Find a place using a full address. When I reported it, Garmin responded that they were aware of the problem and that the Beta had been removed from their website.
Let's hope a fix is available soon.

I am disappointed that Garmin still don't allow us to upload smaller portions of the maps or remove detail from maps before they are uploaded (to save space).
I guess we will have to wait for "Mapedit" to support routable maps before we can do this.
At least they are fixing the "find" function, this was really bad on Mapsource 4.
The Garmin GPS receivers are great units when it comes to robustness, but my next GPS will be a pocket PC or Palm based unit which seems to have much more flexibility.
