Hi,

I have a tosh e400 running medion navigator and have recently purchased a rikaline gps receiver/charger cable.

I am having problems in getting the PDA to recognise the gps.

Thus far I have tried the driver that is available on Rikalines website (pl2303) but when I try to install I get an error message saying that it is not compatible with my operating system (pocket pc 2003).

Is there a recommended driver for PPC 2003? or any other ideas....

thanks in advance.

Hello and Welcome

Is that the error that says that the selected software may be for a previous version of the operating system, but allows you to press OK? If so, what happens if you press OK - that error is usually completely benign. Do things work then?

It does seem to work when I press OK but Medion still has "GPS!" in the top right corner - apparently this means that it cannot see the GPSr.

I am also using GPSdash - and I may be having some progress.

If I set it to COM2, 4800 NMEA, I do get something more legible on the data screen... GPGSV, $GPRMC messages and the like - is this a sign of progress....

If so, then I guess I have to figure a way of getting medion to talk to Com2......

You've got GPS input on COM2 - lines that begin $GPGGA, $GPGSA, $GPRMC etc are what NMEA GPS input looks like.

It sounds like the challenge now is to configure the software.

This is bizarre.

Gps dash shows 5 sats, position etc...

Medion - nothing. Even though I have set up the correct comport (Com2: USBSER) and the baud rate is the same as GPSDash...

any ideas?

Please post a few lines of the NMEA data stream. Maybe your receiver is not sending some of the NMEA sequences that the Navigon program needs.

You seem to be missing GSA

Here's the preferred setup

GGA every second
GSA every second
GSV every 5 seconds
RMC every second

Can you try this? (You can set it with Crux_View)

I think the logger wasn't working right...

I actually get:

GGA 1 message every sec
GSV 3 messages /sec
RMC 1 message /sec
GSA 1 message /sec

but have now changed these to your suggested settings using the crux utility, and.....

Bah! Still no recognition of the GPSr Sad

Are you sure that no other program is running in the background when you try the Medion? Do a soft reset, start the Medion software and try to configure the GPS again.

Absolutely nothing else running at all.

Bizarre...eh?

Indeed.

Can you install Mapopolis and see if that works? (they have downloadable demo maps, too)

Okay, Tried mapopolis and it works an absolute treat. :D

I guess my next move is to re-install the medion software.
Failing that I will have to look at another package - any suggestions...??

thanks again for all the help thus far...
