Mio 269 Plus or TomTom Go 300 - Advice appreciated please

Hi, I'm looking to take my 1st dip in the sat nav ocean and am considering the 2 above products. Any advice?
The TomTom has a longer track record and I know users who are very happy with it but I like the portability of the Mio and the European maps but have never used one.
