All,
I have had my Go 700 for a few weeks now and I notice that my battery life SUCKS! I get less than 2 hours on a full charge! I've notified Tom Tom about this, and they are asking me to send the unit back to them. Just wondering what type of battery life you all are getting before I send the unit back. I am concerned about how strong the battery will be in 2 years when the warranty is over... |

I know 2 hrs ain't great but given what the battery has to power it's pretty good, you've gotr a large screen, a big speaker, a bluetooth radio stack and (in the 700) a hard disk.
Given all that, I get a little over 3 hrs from mine which is pretty good. At the end of the day it was never intended to power it off battery in normal usage, this facility is there to allow you to use it occasionally away from the vehicle. _________________ Darren Griffin |

Makes the bicycle and walking route options a bit silly then! (Unless you've got a VERY long lead)

I did say 'occasionally'! It's not its primary use is it? _________________ Darren Griffin |

Andy, you do make me laugh, but as you say if you are going cycling for the day you may not get home if you go to far as the battery will run out.
I have a feeling that Tomtom chose the internal battery as opposed to a removable one so that only they can get the money if you need a replacement where as if the battery was removable loads of other company's would supply replacements and judging by the mobile phone market Tomtom would most definitely would be undercut.
My TTG 300 lasts a little over three hours. _________________ TTG 300,External Aerial

There's a lot more to a design decision such as this than you suggest! Garmin's C330, no replacable battery, Navman's iCN's ditto. _________________ Darren Griffin |

Well,
Tom Tom customer service was nice enough to ask me to return the unit for replacement. I think I may take them up on the offer. Obviously, they feel that the battery in a brand new unit should last a little longer than 2 hours.... |

As most people use the Go in a car battery life should not be an issue, thats why they give you a car charger with it. |

I understand your point, but, they also chose to put a battery in the unit for those of us who choose to go biking, etc. So, the battery should at least last four hours as stated in the instructions. This is a big investment for a navigation system. There are lesser models out there. I chose the best in my opinion. |

Re-checked my 300 again in case my memory was playing tricks, but after a full charge it gave 5hr 40min. The unit is about a month old and has had around 6 full cycle charges on the battery.[/img] |

Strange one, a full charge overnight at home on my classic gives me .... 10 minutes (the battery low icons flashes as soon as it's turned o)
(Any news on replacement batteries TomTom Classic, I've had mine since they appeared in the UK, 1 1/2 years ago?)
