Hello,

I have recently bought a dell axim X50v, and i am thinking about buying a gps unit. I am just not sure what any of this means. I am some what knowdlegeable when it comes to electronics, but GPS is greek. So, i am asking for some information on a great, if not the best Gps system out on the market. I am not to picky as long as it is compatible, and not to expensive, also do to traveling purposes i would not like a bluetooth model.(to many batteries as it is now) If the items suggested are not a bundled package, could a software choice also be suggested. As i said am new to the gps scene.

Oh, yah i also plan i taking this over seas, and on long trips/car rides so if that affects anything at all. (overseas is from america to Europe)

Thanks

Well tomtom is very popular at the moment and your PDA model is listed as being compatible (which always helps). It comes with a Bluetooth GPS receiver, Sirf Star III GPS chipset (in simple terms its good) and will give you full postcode search in the UK. You can get more info of our site at http://www.totalpda.co.uk/Tomtom-Navigator-5-Bluetooth-Kit.aspx

You can buy the software seperate in some places and get a different GPS of your choice.

Thanks for the reply StevenGourlay, was worried no one would.

Ok, tomtom, i see some things on but havent read up much on them.

I have noticed tho that most people seem to enjoy BT to everyother type of gps. Is there an advantage to BT verses the others besides movement? ( i am really worried about batteries)

I have done some research and was wondering if anyone knew anything about these three. SysOnChip CF GPS Plus II with SiRF Xtrac v2, HAiCOM HI-303III SiRF Star III CF GPS Receiver (dont think this one has been reviewed yet), and the final one is Globalsat SDIO GPS Receiver (SD-501x) with Xtrac ver 2. Its my understanding that the last one got great reviews, but was said to have possible lagg or overrun. I plan i useing this in a car here in the US.

My question then becomes does TOMTOM out rank these?

Also, how do people feel about BT are the batteries that much of a hassle? (so many electronics, only on car Smile )

All info is a help, even if its just opinion, just keep in mind i am a newbie.

Thanks
