My tomtom wired gps know longer works properley - cable for earth twisted and snapped after 2yrs! replaced twice the connector and wire but know joy!

Any recommendations for a new wired gps - cant seem to buy replacement tomtom one - Im currently running tt5 on a compaq/hp 3970
shop recommend a Leadtek GPS 9532 Wired receiver??

or fancy a bluetooth (cheap if possible) like the Globalsat BT308 Bluetooth GPS Receiver BT-308 ?? but would need power from cig lighter socket plus capable of powering the pda too??

Hi

I am using the GPS 9531. I have used bluetooth and CF card GPS but the GPS 9531 is the best. Simple to use and gives more sat. fixes than anything i have used. Bit on the big size but dead cheap on eBay.

I have been using a Holux GM210 for a couple of years and it has been totally reliable. According to the PocketGPSWorld comparison table it is one of the quickest to obtain a fix. It has a magnetic base and is waterproof, so if you have a reflective glass windscreen which blocks your signal youdon't have to spend extra to get an external antenna, you can stick it on your roof!

The only other alternative that i know of is the Tomtom wired receiver. I have just checked on Ebay and there are several. The only problem is that they are more expencive than the GPS 9531.

I have tried many different GPS receivers and have found nothing to beat the BT338. Gets first fixes in seconds and maintains them all over the country. Urban canyons present no problems at all. The difference between the BT338 and most other receivers is vast, a different league. I’m not sure how much they cost now but I brought mine on ebay (brand new and boxed) from Taiwan about three months ago. As they had just come out onto the market they were costing £160 in the UK and I got mine including P&P for £85.

I use a wired unit called Fuzion off ebay, came complete with correct cable for the pda, its an old type unit but works well in built up areas and fairly quick to fix. Cost 36 quid, I also use a bt device, but save that for walking trips - I prefer the simplicity of wired connection in the car - Mike
