the way it works is you plug one end in to the icn and then tune the radio to a frequency its this bit that falls foul of the brodcasting laws as i understand it
using one of these you wouldnt be able to listen to the stereo and have the icn through the stereo at the same time

what you really need it an amplified speeker that has is own power supply they used to be quite widly avalaible the truckstops cb specialists but are very hard to track down i think maplins might be able to get one or the guys there are usually very all thing electronic or local specialist retailer

Multi frequency wireless FM Modulators like the "Audia X" which I use in my car plugged into my MP3 Player are illegal, however a wired FM Modulator which uses a choice of two legal frequencies can be purchased from eBay or Maplins. I use a Maplins unit on my GoldWing. If you need any more info give me a shout.

Hi,
Bit late I know, but I`m new to gps. I have a 520 and as you say the sound isn`t too loud, I had a pair of tiny speakers from an old portable cd player, I stuck one each side of the dash with double sided tape, plugged them into the headphone socket and it`s at least three times louder.

I don't know where you got that information from? There are no legal FM Modulators in the FM broadcast band as this is allocated for the exclusive use of licensed broadcasters.

Quoted from the Ofcom website:
"FM Modulators (also known as car baby devices) - the use of the FM broadcast band to transmit a radio signal from a device used in a vehicle to the car radio is illegal. These devices also include CD players and attachments for mobile telephones. Such use - despite the relative short range involved - is subject to licensing under Section 1 of the Wireless Telegraphy Act 1949. As the FM broadcast band is allocated for the exclusive use of licensed broadcasters no other systems are permitted to operate within the band. Use of these systems therefore constitutes an offence."

I'm looking at doing the same with my TTN5. Basicly, if the device you choose transmits, then its illegal. If you plug it into an areial socket on your car stereo, then its completely legal.

Have a look at this: http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=44128&TabID=1&WorldID=&doy=16m9

Thats the device you need, as a added benefit, you can hide it out of the way behind the dash.

I have one of these units, which I use for my MP3 player. Sound quality is is pretty poor, and quite hissy and needs to be hard wired into your cars electrical system. As you do not need stereo, look at whether your car radio has an input for connecting a mobile phone into, and use this. Alternatively, use one of the widgets connected a fake cassette, which you insert into the stereo.
